About Proper Korean

Hello, everyone who loves the Korean language.

These days, I feel so grateful and happy that so many people love Korea, Korean culture, and the Korean language.

I’m a Korean teacher, and I run Proper Korean. I have taught Korean and met students both in Korea and in many other countries. Meeting students far from Korea — people who study the language and love Korean culture and Korean people — moved me deeply, and filled me with gratitude. But I also saw how hard it was for many of them. Outside Korea, there was often no good way to learn Korean properly. And it made me sad that I couldn’t always be there beside them.

Proper Korean began from that feeling.
I wanted even students far from Korea to be able to learn well on their own — so I put my lessons here, one by one, just as if I were teaching in a real classroom. The things students were curious about, and the parts they found hard, I’ll walk through them here, one at a time.

1. We gently answer the “But why?” questions.

When you learn Korean from a textbook, you often have a “Wait, why do they say it this way?” moment. But in a classroom, these moments are easily passed by — there isn’t always enough time. So here, I take the culture, grammar, and expressions you were curious about, and explain them in a simple way, at a learner’s eye level.

2. We help you prepare for the TOPIK, even on your own.

For those studying for school or work, I’ve prepared TOPIK practice questions. I’ve especially highlighted the parts where students often slip, from my years of teaching. Come and learn the tips and know-how for each question type — the ones that are easy to miss when you study alone. And I’d love to explore, together with you, a few ways to use AI as your study partner.

Proper Korean works together with K-Daum Edu.

In “K-Daum,” the “Daum” comes from “Korea-like” (한국답다).
It means our promise to protect the beautiful, Korea-like spirit you love — through Korean language education.

These days, many students come to Korea to study after paying large fees. Then, because of debt, some give up their studies and end up working part-time jobs just to get by. They don’t know where to find the right information, or what information is even correct. So they have little choice but to rely on expensive agencies.

But when you understand the steps and the facts clearly, and prepare on your own, you can save much more than you might expect. Then you won’t have to overwork under the weight of debt, and you can spend your one and only university years happily. And if your Korean is ready, you can take one step closer to your dream — at the school and in the major you truly want. Proper Korean and K-Daum Edu want to walk that road with you.

Our wish is simple:
that you, as a Korean learner, build a warmer and more beautiful connection with Korea, its culture, and its people — through the Korean language. We hope Korean becomes more than a hobby or passing curiosity. We hope it becomes a strength that helps each of you, and all of us, grow.

I want to keep these materials open to as many students as possible. If you’d like to help me keep making free lessons and Korean culture content, your small support means a great deal.

I’m cheering you on, with all my heart, on your Korean journey.

Thank you
